Care

Mexican pinguicula rock garden care

aka: ping, butterwort

Mexican pinguicula typically do well in most home environments. The most important elements of successful ping care are water and sunlight.

Carnivorous plants' native environments are extremely low in nutrients. Over time, they developed the ability to catch, digest, and absorb the nutrients they need from bugs, small reptiles, amphibians, and rodents. Because of this adaptation, they are extremely sensitive to any nutrients or chemicals in their environment.

Most tropical Mexican pinguicula react to the changing seasons in their native environment by alternating between a carnivorous phase and succulent phase. Pings in a succulent phase require less water. A few varieties of pinguicula do not have a succulent phase.
